National Shutdown Against ICE Brutality

Today is a National Shutdown in response to ICE's reign of terror in our communities. People are refusing to work, refusing to shop, refusing to treat brutality as normal. While thousands take to the streets, these five organizations are in courtrooms, detention centers, and on the ground doing the legal and organizing work that creates accountability:

  • Al Otro Lado - Border legal services for asylum seekers in Tijuana/California. They're challenging illegal pushbacks and family separation.
  • ISLA (Immigration Services and Legal Advocacy) - Pro bono detention defense at Louisiana's Pine Prairie ICE facility. Exposed torture-level conditions including racially-driven solitary confinement.
  • Amica Center for Immigrant Rights - Detention defense and national impact litigation. Lead plaintiff suing Noem/DOJ after government shut down legal access programs in January 2026.
  • Americans for Immigrant Justice - Florida legal services and detention watchdog. Defending unaccompanied children, trafficking survivors, and families facing separation.
  • Minnesota 8 (MN8) - Southeast Asian refugee defense in Minnesota. Currently fighting deportations of Cambodian refugees—survivors of one war, now facing another

World Centric is funding these organizations today because protests need lawyers, legal defense needs money, and resistance requires resources.
