Carbon Offsets Project
El Salvador has the second highest deforestation rate in Central America, where over 80% of the country’s forests have disappeared since the 1960s. Smallholder farmers are particularly at risk to the negative impacts of deforestation including catastrophic landslides, deteriorating watersheds, and declining ecological and economic quality of farms that no longer include overstory trees.
In 2017 World Centric funded TWP to expand their tree nursery capacity in El Salvador by 40,000 trees. This year we continue to support the nursery by providing funds to cover salaries, make repairs, and purchase more seeds.
Indirect Impact:
TWP partners with Arboles y Agua para el Peublo (AAP) to provide hardwood and fruit tree species grown in their nursery. In August-October of 2018, new nursery staff will be trained in seedling production. December 2018- May 2019 will be spent maintaining the current capacity of trees and expanding the nursery by 10,000 seedlings.
A World Centric partner since 2015.
Trees, Water & People's mission is to improve people's lives by helping communities protect, conserve, and manage the natural resources upon which their long-term well-being depends.TWP's unique community-based development model was founded on the philosophy that the best way to help those most in need is to involve them directly in the design and implementation of local environmental and economic development initiatives.
